Background. Bisphosphonates-associated osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ) is a serious complication, which has been defined by Bedogni et al. (1) as an adverse drug reaction consisting of progressive destruction and death of bone that affects the mandible and/or maxilla of patients exposed to the treatment with nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (NBPs) in absence of a previous radiation treatment. Generally, IV NBPs have a strong association with BRONJ than oral NBPs as evidenced by the higher incidence of BRONJ (0-10%) in patients treated with IV drugs than in patients in oral therapy (<1%). BACKGROUND: Mammaglobin is expressed mainly in mammary tissue, overexpressed in breast cancer (BC) and rarely in other tissue. The aim of this study was to assess the sensitivity and specificity of transcript MGB1 detection and to evaluate the role of MGB1 as potential clinical marker for the detection of disseminated cancer cells in the blood of BC patients. Abstract The presence of a growing tumor establishes a chronic state of inflammation that acts locally and systemically. Bone marrow responds to stress signals by expanding myeloid cells endowed with immunosuppressive functions, further fostering tumor growth and dissemination. How early in transformation the cross-talk with the bone marrow begins and becomes detectable in blood is unknown.
